Personal mastery is the art of engaging in work in a mindful way. This makes the work both more meaningful and more effective. Personal mastery involves creativity, openness, and an appreciation of diverse viewpoints. It includes clarifying our personal vision, applying our personal values, and pursuing our personal purpose in ways that support the vision, values, and purpose of our organization and the community while maintaining our individual identity.

Our individual vision, values, and purpose contribute to the development of a shared vision through the process of learning together as a team.

The purpose of this FutureU module is to enhance individual capacity for personal mastery in a context of team learning for the simultaneous benefit of the whole organization and each individual member. The key question for this Module is, "How can I strengthen my own capacities to both lead and serve?"

Topics

  • Leadership based on personal mastery and how it affects the vision and roles of a leader.
  • Challenges and opportunities revealed through personal mastery, especially those inherent in self-reflection and openness.
  • Mental models and shared vision as the bridge between personal mastery and team learning.
  • Mindfulness, reflection, discussion, and practical application, and their impact on individual, team, and organizational effectiveness.

Participant Profile

Executives and mid- to upper-level managers who want to enhance their capacity to lead by practicing the learning cycle of personal mastery.

Module Design

When delivered online, this module lasts two weeks when offered as part of the focused-learning program in Leadership and Continuous Learning. It is also available as a stand-alone, four-week online course. In either case, it requires an average of 10 hours a week of online participation and study time.

Delivery Options

Off-the-shelf or customized to meet your organization's needs. Usually delivered entirely online, via FutureU 's Internet-accessible electronic campus or on your own Intranet. Participants "attend class" from their own desktop or laptop computers, at home or at work, and at whatever time is most convenient to them. Such asynchronous online delivery is especially suited to geographically separated employee groups and those who find it a challenge to fit learning into an already full work schedule. Can also be adapted for on-site delivery.

Customization

Every organization faces a unique set of challenges and opportunities. The FutureU team can customize this module or any other FutureU module or program to address your real workplace concerns and integrate case study material based on your organization's experience. This course can also be modified for "blended" delivery integrating a mix of face-to-face and online work to ease those with little technology experience into the world of online learning.
