Fundraising Success Stories
FutureU co-founder Gail Terry Grimes has helped academic medical centers, medical schools and research centers all around the U.S. raise hundreds of millions of dollars toward nursing education, continuing physician education, computer technology, community health education and other relevant purposes. Both Gail and co-founder Claude Whitmyer are familiar with the management requirements of projects funded by government agencies, having participated in the implementation of Title V HSI (Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions) and PT3 (Preparing Tomorrows Teachers to Use Technology) projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education and a U.S. Department of Agriculture funded RUS (Rural Utilities Service) project, as well as a U.S. State Department DRL (Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor) funded project.

California State University, East Bay
Audience: Administration, Faculty and Students
Goals:
- To extend courses beyond the campus
- To improve the quality of course materials by integrating multi-media content
- To more closely link the University with local K-12 schools
- To provide faculty with upgraded desktop computers in support of these efforts
Results: FutureU CEO Gail Terry Grimes wrote core proposals raising the following funds:
- $150,000, Multi-media technology
- $500,000, Educational Technology to link the University with K-12 schools
- $150,000, Faculty desktop computers
Cathedral School for Boys, San Francisco
Audience: Students
Goal: To provide students with upgraded personal computers for use in the classroom.
Results: FutureU CEO Gail Terry Grimes wrote core proposals raising the following funds:
- $40,000 from the Weigand Foundation for personal computers.
University of California at Davis, College of Engineering
Audience: Faculty and Students
Goal: To provide faculty and students with upgraded computer labs for use in instruction and learning.
Results: FutureU CEO Gail Terry Grimes wrote core proposal raising the following funds:
- $1,250,000 in computer equipment.
Saint Mary's College in Moraga, California
Audience: Administration, Faculty and Students
Goal: Capital campaign to do earthquake retrofitting and update teaching
classrooms.
Results: FutureU CEO Gail Terry Grimes wrote core proposal raising the following funds:
- $34 million raised in the first year.
- $18 million raised in second year. Campaign was so successful first year, that Gail was invited to update materials for this second year campaign. All $18 million was raised in just a few months.
Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico
Audience: Faculty
Goals:
- To extend courses beyond the campus.
- To improve the quality of course materials by integrating multi-media content.
- To provide faculty with laptop computers in support of these efforts.
Results: FutureU principles Gail Terry Grimes and Claude Whitmyer wrote the winning proposal for an initial Title V HIS (Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions) grant from the Department of Education:
- $500,000, Teacher Training and Equipment upgrades
