To provide an orientation to the online or blended learning environment for college students or learners seeking continuing professional education.

We have delivered our 2-week module entitled "Make the Most of Learning Online" for more than 10 years. Clients have included organizations ranging from the American Hospital Association's Fellowship in Creating a Healthier Community to continuing education programs at Dominican University of California. This same module with special annotations is frequently delivered as the introductory segment of our faculty development programs.


California Virtual Campus

To provide an orientation to a variety of course management software packages and how to choose between them.

We delivered a series of workshops to attendees from nearly 50 of the 107 community colleges that make up the California Virtual Campus.


MadDuck Technologies (Web Course In A Box)

To provide training on how to use Web-Course-In-A-Box course management software that included learning theory and instructional design appropriate to technology mediated teaching.

We delivered a series of such trainings to Madduck clients such as Southwest Missouri State University, Merced College, and Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico as well as at professional meetings such as Syllabus, Educause and International Conference on Computers in Teaching and Learning in Jacksonville, Florida.


University of Phoenix Online Campus

To offer continuing professional education certificate programs in management, human resources, and information technology, based on existing course content, but tailored for working professionals.

Our CIO, Claude Whitmyer, led a team of twelve University of Phoenix faculty to develop 16 modules and three certificate programs. The entire program was designed, developed, and delivered 100% online.


California Institute of Integral Studies

Audience Goal Results

Faculty

To offer an alternative to traditional MBA programs that integrated values-based management, social and environmental responsibility, and participatory decision making and could be delivered 60% online, drawing participants from the Western United States.

As chairman of the Master of Arts in Business program, FutureU co-founder Claude Whitmyer created and delivered training to program faculty on best practices in technology-mediated teaching and learning.

Research, Assessment and Implementation Success Stories 

FutureU has conducted research and implementation initiatives for a variety of clients, such as the NASA Astrobiology Institute, American Hospital Association, California Pacific Medical Center, University of Phoenix, and Pacific Bell. Examples of this work include the following.

NASA Astrobiology Institute, Moffett Field, California

Audience Goal Results

Management staff and scientific investigators and IT support staff from more than 500 higher-ed institutions and research centers.

  • To create virtual institute of several hundred scientists doing research the new discipline of "astrobiology."
  • To share scientific data and ideas.
  • To provide high quality, easy to learn, and easy to use tools that support virtual collaboration.
  • To facilitate the evolution of a loose affiliation of researchers into a virtual community of practice.

  • Worked closely with a cultural anthropologist to assess the needs and readiness of the population for the use of virtual collaboration tools.
  • Interviewed representatives of all key stakeholder groups to assess current state of the institute.
  • Surveyed entire population to identify a list of tools and features they wanted to support their work and communication.
    • Got 100% participation from most key stakeholder groups.
    • Ended up with a sample of 165 respondents out of the 500.
  • Researched marketplace and found products to meet the reported needs.
    • Winnowed those down to top half dozen products in each category.
    • Held open demos and surveyed attendees after each demo.
    • Identified prime candidates for piloting

After 3 years they have 17 sites with video conferencing rooms, dozens of desktop video participants, adoption of Web-based real-time meetings, Beginning to use knowledge management/document management tools.


University of Phoenix Online Campus

Working Professionals

To create a Continuing Professional Education program based on proven academic courses, but targeted to working professionals who are looking for academic certification rather than a degree.

We designed a market research project to determine if there was a perceived need for this kind of professional education program.

Conducted focus groups and individual interviews with professionals in the appropriate trade organizations to determine what kinds of topics were perceived as most needed.

Hired and supervised sub-contractor to conduct primary market research by interviewing Directors of HR and Training within 60 corporations. Participated in creation and delivery of report and used report to design program and develop modules and certificate programs which were then taken to market.


American Hospital Association's Health Forum

Audience Goal Results

Senior Healthcare Managers, Cardiac Physicians, Safety Patient Specialists, Community Organizers

To improve community health, cardiac health, and patient safety.

As part of the continuing professional education efforts of the American Hospital Association, the Health Forum's charter is to provide learning opportunities for senior health executives around leadership and community organizing for health initiatives.

FutureU CIO Claude Whitmyer consulted about development of a leadership institute to be delivered in a blended fashion. Helped identify products, attended demonstrations in order to provide feedback. Made recommendations as to how to proceed. Developed initial drafts of leadership modules.

In addition Claude has served as faculty advisor to the Health Forum since 1994. He developed and annually delivered several modules in their various programs.



Grant Writing Success Stories 

FutureU co-founder Gail Terry Grimes has helped academic medical centers, medical schools and research centers all around the U.S. raise hundreds of millions of dollars toward nursing education, continuing physician education, computer technology, community health education and other relevant purposes. And we have participated in the implementation of PT3 and USDA educational technology initiatives, so are very familiar with these grant's requirements.

California State University at Hayward

  • $34 million raised in the first year.
  • $18 million raised in second year. Campaign was so successful first year, that Gail was invited to update materials for this second year campaign. All $18 million was raised in just a few months.
